28 September: World Rabies Day

News in brief
27 September 2013

On the occasion of World Rabies Day, EFSA takes the opportunity to highlight that although the number of rabies cases in animals continued to decrease according to the 2011 annual report on zoonoses and food-borne outbreaks in the European Union, rabies remains one of the 10 zoonotic diseases monitored by EFSA and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

EFSA supports the European Commission and EU Member States in monitoring and reducing risks related to zoonoses; infections or diseases that can be transmitted directly or indirectly between animals and humans.
