Monitoring of animal welfare at slaughterhouses - EFSA consults on scientific opinion

EFSA has launched a public consultation on a draft scientific opinion on animal-based indicators and sampling protocols to monitor animal welfare at slaughterhouses. According to new EU legislation on animal welfare at slaughterhouses, business operators must carry out regular checks to ensure that animals do not present any signs of consciousness after stunning and before death. All stakeholders and interested parties are invited to comment on the document through an online public consultations that runs until 5 September 2013.
