Future challenges to microbial food safety - 9 to 12 June 2008

Wolfheze, The Netherlands
9 June 2008
Joint conference sponsored by EFSA and the Dutch Food and Consumer Products Safety Authority (VWA)
The goal of the conference is to hold discussions on new challenges to food safety that are caused by microbes and on strategies and methodologies to counter these. The debate will take place on the interface of basic science and risk analysis. Speakers have been invited on the basis of their ability to approach topics from more than one angle and their ability to defend contrasting propositions. The overall aim is to achieve conceptual breakthroughs through an imaginative combination of recent developments in microbiology and mathematical modelling and use these to create predictive tools. Such tools should enable risk assessors to pro-actively address imminent problems before they cause harm.
