Kemzyme® W Dry is an enzyme feed additive based on a mixture of endo-1,3(4)-beta-glucanase produced by Aspergillus aculeatus, endo-1,4-beta-glucanase produced by Trichoderma longibrachiatum, alpha-amylase produced by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, protease (bacillolysin) produced by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and endo-1,4-beta-xylanase produced by Trichoderma viride, intended for use in laying hen’s diets rich in non-starch polysaccharides, in a dose range of 0.25-1.0 g kg-1 diet.
The FEEDAP Panel of EFSA adopted an opinion on the safety of this enzyme preparation as feed additive for laying hens in which, due to the short duration of the tolerance trial, no conclusions could be reached on the safety of Kemzyme® W Dry for laying hens. Following this opinion, the applicant has now submitted new data on tolerance to support the extension of the authorisation.
The tolerance trial performed with 96 laying hens during 12 weeks showed that laying hens tolerated a 10X overdose of the enzymatic preparation Kemzyme® W Dry without negative effects on health or performance. Therefore, the FEEDAP Panel concludes that the use of this product at the recommended dose is safe for laying hens.
