Abstract

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) carried out a public consultation to receive input from the scientific community and all interested parties on the Draft Scientific Opinion of the EFSA Panel on Animal Health and Welfare (AHAW Panel) on the welfare risks related to the farming of sheep for wool, meat and milk production. The draft was discussed and endorsed for public consultation by the Panel at its plenary meeting on 16 September 2014. The written public consultation for this document was open from 24 September to 5 November 2014. EFSA received comments from 12 interested parties. EFSA and the AHAW Panel wish to thank all stakeholders for their contributions. The current report summarises the outcome of the public consultation; it includes a brief summary of the comments received and how they were addressed. Taking into account the relevant comments received, the AHAW Panel prepared an updated version of the Scientific Opinion on the welfare risks related to the farming of sheep for wool, meat and milk production. The Scientific Opinion of the EFSA AHAW Panel was discussed and adopted at the AHAW Plenary meeting on December 2014 and is published in the EFSA Journal.
